Financial Aid
Financial assistance is available to you in two ways. One is the Education Improvement “Tax Credits Scholarship” Program (TCS). If your family income is less than 300% of the federal poverty line ($72,000 for a family of four), then you are likely eligible.
Other assistance is available by applying for the BCBS tuition grant. Grants will be awarded according to the school boards’ discretion and the availability of funds.
Tax Savings
The new Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has expanded the use of 529 plans – accounts that allow savers to accumulate interest on a tax-free basis – to include elementary and secondary school expenses at public, private, or religious institutions. Individuals can take up to $10,000 in distributions annually from their 529 plan. Please see your tax advisor to clarify rules for Virginia.
